Marketplace & Classified Platform Development — Custom B2C/C2C Platforms
We'd design multi-category marketplaces and classified platforms that scale to hundreds of thousands of listings and millions of searches — tuned to your vertical, from real estate and vehicles to second-hand and niche B2B.
Building a niche marketplace or classified platform is the kind of project that starts with "let's just stand up an off-the-shelf platform" and turns into a heavy custom software engagement seven or eight months later. The reason is simple: marketplaces are not ordinary e-commerce. You are managing two sides at once (buyer and seller), a deep category tree, high-volume search, moderation, trust, and usually a sector-specific payment model. Across our marketplace project experience the pattern is consistent: success comes from the engineering details that no off-the-shelf SaaS can cover — and that is the design space we'd work in for your case.
Where Off-the-Shelf Marketplace SaaS Breaks Down
Off-the-shelf marketplace SaaS and generic e-commerce platforms are built for the general case — they do not fit niche verification flows or category-specific filter sets (classic cars, certified tutoring, sector-specific B2B).
As volume grows past 10,000 active listings and hundreds of searches per second, off-the-shelf infrastructure slows down — ElasticSearch tuning, geo search, and caching strategy quickly outgrow built-in capabilities.
Detection for spam listings, fake accounts, and scam messages is weak — moderation panels are either missing or basic, and they cannot be customised for niche scam patterns.
Local payment flows (Iyzico, PayTR, instalments, escrow, VAT and withholding, electronic invoice) are half-baked in SaaS marketplaces, so every integration becomes a custom development line item.
Category-driven search and filtering (square meters, room count, and heating type for real estate; year, transmission, and accident history for vehicles) cannot be expressed cleanly in templated schemas — each new category triggers another rearchitecture.
Our Approach
The first question we'd debate from day one on a marketplace project is which side of the two-sided network to grow first. For classified platforms, supply usually has to come first — buyers will not come to an empty platform. So the MVP we recommend does not chase a beautiful buyer experience early; it locks in flawless listing publication, the category tree, and moderation. For a multi-category platform we'd model each vertical (vehicles, real estate, second-hand, private tutoring, or whatever your verticals are) separately, each with its own mandatory fields, verification logic, and supply-and-demand behaviour. The goal: a single platform that behaves like a portfolio of mini-products under the hood.
The second critical decision is the search architecture. Past 10,000 listings PostgreSQL LIKE queries are no longer enough; our recommended approach is ElasticSearch or Meilisearch with category-specific facets, price-range filters, geo search (listings within X kilometres of a location), and full-text relevance scoring. PostGIS handles geo queries, Redis caches popular searches, and a CDN delivers media. These look like individual features on paper, but together they decide whether the platform loads in 200 milliseconds or two seconds — and that gap is the difference between a sticky listing flow and steady churn.
Process
Domain Modelling
Which categories exist, what mandatory and optional fields each one has, and how categories interact — the domain model is the spine of the project. We pin it down in a one-week workshop.
Category & Filter System
A dynamic category tree, per-category mandatory fields and filters, and an admin-side schema that lets you add a new vertical with a single click later on.
Search Layer (ElasticSearch)
Full-text search, facet filtering, geo search, sort modes (proximity, price, recency, popularity), and relevance tuning. We design the sync strategy with PostgreSQL and the index rebuild plan from day one.
Listing Management & Moderation
Listing publication flow, photo upload and compression, AI pre-moderation (banned content, duplicates, scam), human moderator panel, and user reporting. Trust and safety is wired in from the start.
Payments, Subscriptions & Commission
Listing fees, featured listings, subscription tiers, escrow flow, integrations with Iyzico, PayTR, and Stripe Connect, plus accounting and invoicing sync. Tax mechanics (VAT, electronic invoices) are modelled upfront.
